In a significant recognition of her exceptional leadership and dedication to reducing crime rates in Ghana, Chief Superintendent Dr. Sarah ABA Afari, the Medina Divisional Police Commander of the Ghana Police Service, has been awarded two honorary doctorate degrees in Ministry and Christian Education from the Holy Spirit Bible University. As the first female police PhD holder in Ghana and Africa, Dr. Afari continues to blaze trails in her career.

Dr. Afari’s contributions to her community go beyond law enforcement, as she now calls upon the Gender Ministry to craft a pioneering policy aimed at allowing women to spend more quality time with their children. Her belief is that this will not only benefit families but also play a vital role in reducing the country’s crime rates.

“Reducing the country’s crime rates can start with empowering women and enabling them to spend time with their children,” she emphasized. Dr. Afari sees this as a crucial strategy to change the dynamics of the nation. She suggests that women should have the opportunity to be present when their children return from school, as house helps often need guidance and support. A potential policy could be gender mainstreaming to ensure women can leave work earlier to meet their children after school, possibly at 3:00 PM.

Dr. Afari’s approach has already yielded positive results in the Medina municipality, with targeted engagement with women proving effective in crime prevention. She is convinced that mothers play a pivotal role in influencing their children’s behavior and can also have a positive impact on their husbands, thus contributing to overall crime reduction.

In addition to Dr. Afari’s accomplishments, Reverend Dr. Victor Bodai Anan was also honored with an honorary doctorate degree for his outstanding humanitarian services from the same university. Dr. Anan called on the country’s political leadership to combat corruption, especially in the face of challenging economic conditions. He encouraged the youth not to give up on their dreams and emphasized the importance of diligent stewardship.

These distinguished individuals were recognized by the Holy Spirit Bible University, a Christian interdenominational institution dedicated to teaching the word of God in an academic setting. Their achievements serve as an inspiration for others and a reminder of the positive impact individuals can have in their communities.
